Sindicel's initiative will be present on all three days of the Fair, which takes place concurrently with the 12th Tubotech – International Fair of Pipes, Valves, Pumps, Fittings and Components

São Paulo, July 2023 – The good quality of electrical wires and cables is of paramount importance in civil construction due to basically two fundamental factors: safety and better energy efficiency. It is for this reason that the Mobile Laboratory of Sindicel (Union of the Electric Conductor, Wire Drawing and Non-Ferrous Metal Lamination Industry of the State of São Paulo) will be present at wire South America 6th International Wire and Cable Fair, which happens in conjunction with the 12th Tubotech – International Trade Fair for Tubes, Valves, Pumps, Fittings and Components. The Mobile Laboratory has all the equipment to measure the quality of electrical wires and cables, identifying components that are outside the technical compliance established by ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards).

The fairs take place from October 3 to 5 at the São Paulo Expo Exhibition & Convention Center, in São Paulo, organized and promoted by Fiera Milano Brasil.

“The laboratory will be at the trade fair with two or three engineers who will interact with people, in addition to performing cable tests for visiting professionals. On some of these cables, heating tests will be carried out to check the condition of the component in high-temperature situations,” says Sindicel’s executive director, Enio Rodrigues.

One of Sindicel's major concerns, operating in this case in partnership with Qualifio (Brazilian Association for the Quality of Electrical Wires and Cables), is combating the illegal market for electrical wires and cables in Brazil. Both entities monitor and identify manufacturers and certification bodies operating irregularly in the Brazilian market, notifying the competent authorities.

“Most manufacturers of electrical wires and cables already know the work of Sindicel and Qualifio, and we believe that our presence at the trade fairs will generate a great response regarding technical quality and the protection of our consumer,” Rodrigues highlights.

Black market figures
Estimated data released by Sindicel indicate that 30% of the products sold in Brazil are illegal, with sales in 2022 reaching approximately R$ 2.4 billion. The sector’s annual revenue, also in 2022, was R$ 7.45 billion.
Another concerning statistic cited by Sindicel, referring to the year 2019, is the total loss of electricity due to wiring that does not meet technical standards, which amounts to 7% of the country’s total consumption, resulting in an annual cost of R$ 9.2 billion.
