From October 6 to 8, 2015, the industrial chain for the pipes, valves, pumps, fittings, and components segments gathered at the 8th edition of Tubotech, held at the São Paulo Expo Exhibition & Convention Center. Held simultaneously with the 2nd edition of Wire South America | International Wire and Cable Fair, the events featured over 550 exhibitors across an area of 32,000 square meters.

Recognized as the most important trade fair in the Americas for the sector and the second in the world in terms of foreign company presence, Tubotech | International Trade Fair for Pipes, Valves, Pumps, Fittings, and Components and Wire South America, the South American version of the world's largest wire and cable trade fair, Wire Düsseldorf, received a surprising turnout. Over the course of three days, more than 11,000 highly qualified professionals from the automotive, oil and gas, metal construction, food, furniture, mining, paints, and infrastructure sectors, among others, visited the events.

“These trade fairs cover the production chain of important economic sectors. We saw effective movement for business generation, market integration, professional updating and improvement. We saw the sector uniting to strengthen itself in a scenario of instability, contrary to the pessimism that prevails in the business sector as a whole. It is necessary to act and be bold to break out of inertia, and the companies that were here worked confidently to generate opportunities and show that the pipe and cable sectors are strong and intelligent, and are prepared to react to the current moment and showcase their full potential. We certainly held an event that surprised everyone by stimulating business and outlining a positive horizon, highlighted Luciano Targiani, executive director of Tarcom Promoções, promoter of Tubotech, in partnership with Cipa Fiera Milano and

ABITAM | Brazilian Association of Metal Pipe and Fitting Industry, organizer of the event.

Rimantas Sipas, commercial director of Cipa Fiera Milano, also noted that the current economic climate has presented new challenges for the event, which has been held since 2003. “The industry’s performance is tied to the country’s growth and also to its own capacity to invest and innovate. In this context, trade shows play an important role as a platform for generating business and knowledge.” José Adolfo Siqueira, executive director of ABITAM, added that it is necessary to resume investments in technology so that the Brazilian industry—which today accounts for 9% of GDP—can return to the 23% level it once reached. “There is no developed country in the world that does not have a strong industrial sector.”.

Erhard Wienkamp, Director of Messe Düsseldorf, promoter of Wire South America, in partnership with Tarcom Promoções and organized by Cipa Fiera Milano, praised Brazil's potential for the development of industrial activity, adding that holding the second edition of the South American fair—the world's largest specialized event for wire and cable—is a sign of confidence in the Brazilian market. Reinforcing the interest in Brazil, the director of ITA – Italian Trade Agency, Federico Balmas, alongside the Deputy Consul of Italy in São Paulo, Francesca Maria Orsini, and the president of ITALCAM, Edoardo Pollastri, commented that the agency brought 12 Italian companies to this edition. In addition to the Italian Pavilion, Wire South America featured other important collective participations, such as the German Pavilion with 22 companies, and the US Pavilion.

New businesses in 32 thousand m2
With the participation of leading national and international players, the trade shows featured exhibitors from 24 countries and three continents (16 from Europe, five from Asia, and three from South America/North America). In terms of profile, in 2015, the most prominent segments at Tubotech were tubes (51%), machinery and tools (14%), and services and projects (13%).

Content and professional update
At Wire South America, which had the largest number of exhibitors, 45% were manufacturers of wires and finishing machinery, and 34% were manufacturers of materials, specialty wires, and cables. The First Brazilian Pipe Industry Congress, organized by ABITAM, brought together experts from government and the private sector who presented an overview of the current state of the Brazilian economy and the challenges involved in navigating the transition to a new phase of growth. The congress expanded the scope of discussion at Tubotech with the aim of analyzing the market, promoting technological innovations, and encouraging the exchange of information and knowledge. A total of 13 lectures, delivered by experts, were divided into three main categories: regulatory, commercial and market, and technical.

Due to its significant share in the national GDP, the oil and gas sector was one of the highlights of the program. Lauro Doniseti Bogniotti, project manager at the Secretariat of Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels, addressed the topic of Local Content regulation, which is part of a policy aimed at increasing the participation of domestic industry in the supply of goods and services, especially in sectors considered strategic such as the oil and naval industries. Antônio Guimarães, E&P Executive Secretary of IBP | Brazilian Institute of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels, raised the issue related to the high volatility of oil prices and the transformations in the global landscape of the commodity. Regarding regulatory matters, engineer Marcelo Mafra Borges de Macedo, Superintendent of Operational Safety and Environment at ANP – National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels, spoke about the new regulation for the Operational Safety Management System of Subsea Systems (SGSS), which is to be issued by the end of 2015, with a two-year compliance period. Discussing current and future conditions
Fred Carvalho, director of institutional affairs for the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea), emphasized the sector’s importance in creating skilled jobs and developing a local supply chain. “The automotive industry accounts for 23% of Brazil’s industrial GDP, and the country ranks among the
10 largest vehicle sales markets in the world”. In the technical session, which drew great public interest, engineer Alfredo Lobo, quality director of Inmetro, discussed compulsory certification in the pipes and fittings market, which prioritizes safety, health, and environmental issues. Among other speakers also present were Franco Papini, executive vice-president of SINAVAL – National Union of the Naval and Offshore Construction and Repair Industry, and Cesar Prata, president of the Oil and Gas Council of Abimaq – Brazilian Association of the Machinery and Equipment Industry.

Techshow
Held on October 7th and 8th, the 4th edition of the Techshow featured a series of technical lectures given by the exhibitors, which aimed to promote the
exchange of experiences and professional updating. For two days, Techshow provided an environment of technical knowledge and enabled exhibitors to present their products, services, and their applications. Matchmaking & Business Roundtable based on the exhibitors' profile and identified synergies, the meetings were scheduled in advance with potential buyers, with great potential for generating numerous deals in the coming months. Successfully carried out, the business meetings took place over the three days, concurrently with the trade fair.
